TotalEnergies and Mistral Commit More Than €100 Million to Oil and Gas AI
TotalEnergies and Mistral AI will invest more than €100 million in a three year program to develop AI models for oil and gas exploration and reservoir engineering, the companies said in a press release. The models will support geoscience teams as they explore, characterize and develop reservoirs.
The program will combine agentic AI with nearly a century of TotalEnergies data and expertise in geoscience and reservoir engineering. The companies plan to build models that process large data volumes, generate exploration scenarios and identify options for optimizing existing projects and extending their operating lives.
The partners will establish a joint scientific laboratory staffed with TotalEnergies subsurface specialists and Mistral researchers. The program expands their AI collaboration established in June 2025, which covered research, industrial operations and customer services.
