Siemens to Acquire Defacto Technologies for Automated SoC Design Tools

Siemens announced in a press release that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Defacto Technologies, a privately held electronic design automation company based in Grenoble, France. Defacto specializes in register transfer level design and automated system on chip creation and integration. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition will expand Siemens' electronic design automation portfolio by adding tools that help manage increasing SoC complexity through automation. Defacto’s technology extends continuity across the SoC design lifecycle, supporting tasks from early design creation through implementation, verification, and signoff.

According to Siemens, the combined offering will support design automation across connectivity, timing constraints, and power intent flows. Defacto’s unified design database automates SoC assembly and restructuring, a process that becomes more challenging as companies move toward chiplet-based and configurable architectures.

Defacto Technologies was founded in 2003 and develops software that simplifies design creation for semiconductor and electronics engineering teams.
