Ballerine Launches Agentic Detection API to Identify Merchant Fraud in Under a Minute

April 21, 2026
Ballerine has introduced a new Scam & Fraud Detection API that detects high-risk merchants and coordinated fraud networks in less than 60 seconds, aiming to prevent fraudulent transactions before they occur.

Ballerine has introduced a new agentic detection solution called Scam and Fraud Detection API, which identifies high-risk merchants and fraud networks in under 60 seconds, announced in a press release.

The API analyzes a merchant's digital footprint, behavioral signals, ownership structure, and ecosystem connections to detect fraudulent activity before transactions occur. It is designed to identify patterns across networks of merchants rather than assessing individual cases in isolation.

According to the company, the system can block fraudulent transactions before they happen by recognizing clusters of related entities, discrepancies between declared and actual business activity, and early indicators of transaction laundering. The approach aims to address the growing challenge of coordinated, AI driven fraud operations that move across geographies and payment providers.

The launch follows research from Ballerine's book *The Synthetic Merchant Economy*, which examines how fraudulent merchants infiltrate payment systems through synthetic identities and deceptive storefront networks. The company states that instant legitimacy assessment will be increasingly important as digital commerce shifts toward agent based transactions.
