Ultra Maritime Demonstrates Underwater Drone Detection at U.S. Navy Exercise

Ultra Maritime's Sea Spear sonar system detected, tracked, and classified unmanned underwater vehicles during the U.S. Navy Lanternfish 2026 exercise in Washington.

Ultra Maritime announced in a press release that its Sea Spear deployable sonar system detected, tracked, and classified unmanned underwater vehicles during the U.S. Navy Lanternfish 2026 exercise in Keyport, Washington. The company said the test used a port protection scenario to evaluate undersea technologies under operational conditions.

Sea Spear detected medium and large diameter UUVs and sent track data to undersea command centers. The system provides persistent acoustic sensing for remote locations, maritime choke points, and strategically important waterways.

The exercise also included work with Anduril Industries. Sea Spear was integrated with Anduril's Seabed Sentry to form a distributed autonomous undersea sensing network.

The system can be deployed from manned or unmanned platforms. It can be used as a permanent installation or as an attritable asset, depending on mission needs.
