US Navy Raises Gecko Robotics Contract Ceiling to $300 Million

Oct 20, 2026
The US Navy raised the ceiling on its Gecko Robotics contract from $71 million to $300 million, expanding the use of robotic ship inspection systems to the Atlantic Surface Fleet.

The U.S. Navy raised the ceiling on its five year contract with Gecko Robotics from $71 million to $300 million, according to DefenseScoop. The original agreement covered 18 Pacific Fleet ships, while the expansion will extend the technology to the Atlantic Surface Fleet.

Gecko provides robots, drones, sensors, and software that collect data on ship conditions. Its Komodo robot uses electromagnetic acoustic transducers to measure steel thickness beneath deck coatings, helping engineers find corrosion and structural damage without removing the coating first.

The systems can inspect ships while they remain in the water. Gecko software processes millions of measurements to help Navy engineers identify required repairs, avoid unnecessary steel replacement, and plan maintenance before work begins.
