Companies building payments for AI agents

The networks, processors, platforms, rails and startups that let AI agents pay

Updated Nov 2026

An AI agent that buys something for you raises three questions a human shopper never did: is this a real agent, did a real person approve the purchase, and who pays when the agent gets it wrong. Card networks now issue tokens bound to an agent, payment platforms accept agent checkouts, stablecoin rails handle tiny machine payments, and a new trust layer checks who an agent is. This guide lists the companies with a live or piloted product in each of those layers, as of late September 2026. Each entry says whether the product is live, in a pilot or in preview, and who owns the company.

Card networks and standards

American Express American Express

American Express is building Agentic Commerce Experiences, or ACE, for developers connecting AI agents to its card network. The developer kit covers five parts of a purchase: registering the agent, enabling a cardholder's account, recording purchase intent, supplying payment credentials and sharing cart context. Together, these services are designed to connect a customer's authorization to the payment an agent makes.

The kit is partly available to developers. Account Enablement, Intent Intelligence and Payment Credentials specifications are published, while Agent Registration and Cart Context remain under development. Amex applies spending and merchant restrictions that apply when an agent executes a purchase, alongside scoped credentials and an auditable transaction flow. Credentials are limited in scope and tied to verified intent, with short lived authorization records and verification at execution. Developers can represent conditions such as when an additional customer approval is required.

Amex has also announced Agent Purchase Protection for eligible charges caused by an agent's error. The proposed coverage requires a registered agent to send authenticated purchase intent. The protection is forthcoming; the three published developer specifications can already be used for integration work.

FIDO Alliance FIDO Alliance

The FIDO Alliance develops standards for agent authorization, including Google's AP2 and Mastercard's Verifiable Intent. AP2 records a customer's purchase and payment permissions in signed mandates. Verifiable Intent provides cryptographic evidence of that authorization for merchants, issuers and networks. The alliance develops these specifications through its payment standards work, giving implementers a common way to represent consent and delegated authority across payment products.

Card networks and standards

Mastercard Mastercard

Mastercard's Agent Pay gives payment providers a framework for recognizing agents and letting them spend with a customer's permission. Its network issued agent tokens build on card tokenization, authentication and fraud controls, with issuers including Citi and U.S. Bank among the first participants.

For merchants, Agent Connect brings product discovery, cart details and authorized payment into one integration. Merchants choose which AI experiences to join and retain control over pricing, fulfillment and customer relationships. Mastercard has also announced Agent Pay for Machines for frequent, small payments between software services, with programmable limits and settlement across cards, accounts and stablecoins. Its initial supporters include Adyen, Coinbase, Cloudflare and Stripe. The machine payment service includes agent credentialing and permissioning, with rules enforced programmatically and Verifiable Intent carrying evidence of what a user approved.

The newer trust and intelligence services add identity, intent, behavior and fraud context to agent transactions. The shared transaction context is intended for issuer authorization and merchant fraud decisions, connecting the agent's identity to the permission under which it is acting.

NPCI NPCI

NPCI, the organization behind India's UPI network, is piloting payments inside Claude with Razorpay for Zomato, Swiggy and Zepto. Customers use UPI Reserve Pay to approve a merchant spending limit, then make repeat purchases without another PIN prompt. The small user pilot includes adjustable limits, payment visibility and consent revocation.

Visa Visa

Visa gives agent builders, merchants and issuers a way to put card payments into automated shopping. Its Intelligent Commerce portfolio covers payment credentials, authentication, spending controls and transaction evidence, including tools for business purchasing. Customers set spending limits, authenticate when enrolling a card or starting a purchase, and provide instructions that the payment system can check. Transaction signals help with fraud review and disputes.

For merchants and platforms, Intelligent Commerce Connect combines payment initiation, authentication and routing across Visa and other payment schemes. It also turns merchant catalogs into data agents can search, with purchases completed on the merchant's storefront. Payment instructions are checked against customer intent, including spending limits, before a transaction proceeds. Developers can connect existing credential providers through the same orchestration layer, with support for multiple token providers alongside payment scheme choice.

Visa has reported hundreds of controlled transactions with partners including Skyfire, PayOS and Ramp, covering consumer purchases and corporate bill payments. Access and deployment depend on the particular product and partner: Visa still describes the broader portfolio as being deployed in stages, with final features subject to change.

x402 Foundation x402 Foundation

Hosted by the Linux Foundation, the x402 Foundation stewards an open payment standard that lets software pay for resources through ordinary web requests. A service returns an HTTP 402 payment request, the client pays and retries, and the server releases the resource. The pattern supports agents buying API calls, content and other digital services without setting up a separate subscription for each provider.

The protocol is free to use, with payment network costs charged separately. Its code is open source, and the foundation describes it as production ready. Stablecoins are its main payment method, while the standard is designed to work across blockchains and extend to other payment rails.

For a sense of actual usage, Visa and Artemis reported roughly $15 million in adjusted volume across 109.6 million x402 transactions from May 2025 through April 2026. The report distinguishes API microtransactions from consumer shopping purchases and compares x402 with the newer MPP protocol, which Stripe and Tempo developed with Visa contributions.

Adyen Adyen

Adyen Agentic is commerce infrastructure for enterprise retailers selling through AI assistants. It has three modules: Feed supplies catalog and inventory data, Cart keeps pricing, tax and shipping synchronized, and Payments handles payment acceptance and fraud screening. A merchant can connect the service to existing order management and fulfillment systems.

The product's initial enterprise release is limited to merchants operating in the US. Early retailers include ESW, Scheels, Sézane and SharkNinja, alongside technology partners American Express, Mastercard, Salesforce and Visa. Adyen adapts a single integration across agent platforms, protocols and payment methods.

The merchant remains merchant of record and retains the customer relationship after a sale. Adyen also uses its risk engine to distinguish legitimate agents from unwanted bots, while the checkout flow asks the customer to approve payment. The three modules are separate APIs, so teams can fit catalog distribution, cart orchestration and payments around their existing commerce platform, transaction routing and business rules.

Affirm Affirm

Affirm is adding its pay over time plans to Google Pay checkout in Google Search and Gemini. Customers choose Affirm, complete a real time eligibility check and review available payment terms before accepting a plan. It also works on buy now, pay later extensions for UCP. Access depends on rollout, merchant participation and the customer's eligibility.

AI platforms and big tech

Airwallex Airwallex

Airwallex gives businesses AgentOS tools for live accounts, including a command line interface, MCP server and workflows for billing, beneficiaries, card provisioning and cash flow reports. Plugins are available for Claude Code, Claude Cowork and Cursor; the prebuilt skills remain in beta. The production MCP server operates on an authenticated Airwallex account, while separate developer connectors serve sandbox integration work and documentation access.

There is a significant execution limit: AgentOS does not initiate money out, including transfers, FX conversions or payouts. It can work with production account data and prepare financial workflows within that boundary. Airwallex's $320 million Series H valued the company at $11 billion, with returning investor Addition leading the round and funding directed toward autonomous finance, agent commerce and international infrastructure.

Ant International Ant International

An independently operated Ant Group affiliate, Ant International supplies cross border payment services through Alipay+, Antom and WorldFirst. Its Agentic Mobile Protocol lets agents transact through digital wallets, mobile apps and other interfaces, including QR payments. The protocol is open and its first rollout involves wallet and acquiring partners. AMP also covers super apps and wearable devices, reflecting its focus on mobile payment interfaces as well as ordinary browser checkout.

Phase I includes ten wallets and seven acquirers, with wallets collectively serving 1.5 billion accounts. Adyen, Checkout.com, Fiserv, Global Payments, Nuvei and Worldline are among the acquirers. Ant International is also working with Visa and Mastercard on agent identification across networks. It raised $1.2 billion in equity from backers including Ant Group and Alibaba to fund international expansion.

Block Block

Block, the company behind Square and Cash App, is building payment rails for agents buying goods and digital services. It joined the x402 Foundation and contributed Bitcoin Lightning support, adding another payment method to an HTTP based standard commonly used for stablecoins.

The Lightning implementation targets frequent, small payments between software systems. Developers can try it and contribute through the foundation's open code. Block says it will continue developing Lightning support and participate in the foundation's working groups, alongside its other open source agent projects, including goose and the Agentic AI Foundation.

Checkout.com Checkout.com

Checkout.com provides agent payment infrastructure for enterprise merchants that want to connect AI platforms, card networks and their existing payment systems. Its approach combines card vaulting, spending limits, permission scopes and agent transaction analytics. It has announced support for ACP and works with Visa, Mastercard and Google on payment standards.

Merchants retain their customer relationships and responsibility for chargebacks. Checkout.com describes agent identity, behavior and delegated permissions as additional risk signals alongside existing payment controls. Agent credentials can carry a spending cap or time limit while the underlying card remains in the merchant's vault; the scoped credential becomes unusable when its permission expires or is revoked.

Fiserv Fiserv

Fiserv gives merchants and software platforms a route to accept payments from agents across ACP, AP2, Visa's Trusted Agent Protocol and Mastercard Agent Pay. It uses one connection with existing merchant accounts, fraud systems, routing preferences and settlement processes, including support for merchants' preferred payment methods.

Under its expanded Mastercard partnership, Fiserv is integrating Secure Card on File to request network tokens for merchants and partners, and adopting the Agent Pay Acceptance Framework. The agreement covers tokenization, authentication, fraud prevention and governance. Settlement and reporting are consolidated through the accounts merchants already use.

GoCardless GoCardless

Mollie's GoCardless has processed a live agent bank payment through a chatbot donation to Trussell. Donors choose a monthly amount in the conversation, then supply bank details so the agent can create a Direct Debit mandate. Developed within the FCA's AI Live Testing program, the demonstration covers recurring bank payments, with the donation experience publicly available.

Klarna Klarna

Klarna sells pay later options and publishes an Agentic Product Protocol for AI shopping tools. Its hosted implementation provides structured data for more than 100 million products and 400 million prices across the US and 11 European markets. Agents can discover and compare goods before checkout. Payment acceptance depends on the merchant's separate payment integration.

Nuvei Nuvei

Owned by Advent and other shareholders, Nuvei is developing agent payment acceptance for merchants. It completed a live Visa proof of concept with Arvato Systems and fashion retailer Kings and Priests, where a merchant's agent bought an item for a shopper and paid within the same experience. Shopper controls included spending caps and approved categories.

The wider Nuvei Agentic product is moving toward production. Its planned compatibility layer connects different agent protocols, while Know Your Agent adds registration, mandate validation, reputation scoring and audit records. Nuvei targeted initial availability in the second half of 2026; the demonstrated payment used a merchant operated agent and participating issuers.

PayPal PayPal

PayPal's Agentic Commerce Services help merchants make their products discoverable and accept payment inside AI shopping experiences. Agent Ready handles the payment connection, while Store Sync shares catalogs, manages carts and sends orders to existing merchant systems. Access starts with an onboarding request to PayPal's AI team. Merchants can connect product listings through partners such as Wix and Shopware, and Store Sync lets them retain control over brand presentation and customer communications.

For Braintree merchants, Agent Ready supports ACP for ChatGPT apps and UCP for Google AI Mode and Gemini. ACP uses delegated payment tokens; the Google integration uses a Google Pay payment handler. Merchants keep their Braintree processing relationship and can use their existing merchant account.

PayPal already supplies checkout inside Microsoft Copilot, including merchant inventory, branded and guest checkout, and card payments. Its Perplexity Instant Buy integration lets US shoppers purchase from participating retailers such as Adorama, Fabletics and Newegg within the conversation. In that flow the retailer remains merchant of record and receives the payment directly.

Razorpay Razorpay

Razorpay supplies the UPI payments inside Claude in NPCI's pilot for Zomato, Swiggy and Zepto. A customer sets a merchant spending limit through UPI Reserve Pay, then an agent can complete repeat purchases within it without repeated PIN prompts. The user can see payments, change limits and revoke consent.

The experience is a small user pilot demonstrated at the India AI Impact Summit. Razorpay also offers developer tools for agents alongside its payments platform for Indian businesses, giving software teams a separate route to integrate payment operations into their own automated workflows.

Revolut Revolut

Revolut is making its Revolut Pay checkout compatible with agent commerce in the UK and European Economic Area. It says the payment method supports Google's AP2 framework. Revolut also supplied the card used in a live French agent payment with Visa and Cleverbridge, authenticated with a passkey before the agent completed the purchase.

Stripe Stripe

Stripe sells payments tools for both sides of agent commerce: developers building agents that spend, and businesses selling products, services or API access to them. Its Agentic Commerce Suite lets a merchant share a catalog feed while Stripe distributes product data, manages checkout, processes payments and sends order notifications.

The managed retail checkout is available in the US, Canada and selected European countries. Merchants can take over parts of the flow, such as tax, shipping or order approval. Handling every checkout event with an outside processor is a separate US private preview. Stripe also supports machine payments for APIs through MPP and x402, plus scoped Shared Payment Tokens for agent purchases. For an API or tool seller, payment happens per request; for retail sellers, the service carries catalog, checkout and order information through the shopping flow.

On the consumer side, Link powers Meta Muse purchases. Customers approve each total in chat. Muse uses saved payment methods at more than a million Link businesses, while Link issues a card restricted to the approved purchase for other merchants. Stripe says Link has more than 300 million users globally. Shared Payment Tokens carry a scoped payment credential between the agent and the seller, so a business can accept an authorized purchase without giving the agent unrestricted use of the customer's payment method.

Thredd Thredd

Thredd helps banks and fintechs prepare card programs for Visa agent payments, with Zilch among the first participating issuers. Its existing platform supplies Visa Token Service credentials, device binding and biometric passkey confirmation. Agent specific tokenization and fraud monitoring are still being developed, so joining the readiness program does not mean every new control is already available.

Worldline Worldline

Worldline processes payments for merchants and banks and completed a production transaction with ING and Mastercard in the Netherlands. A merchant's agent found concert tickets within a shopper's budget and completed the purchase after explicit customer approval. ING authenticated and authorized the card payment, and Worldline processed it across its issuing and acquiring platforms.

The transaction carried identifiers marking agent involvement, giving the issuer visibility into how the purchase began. Worldline has also announced a Visa transaction and UCP support for agent commerce. Its UCP payment handler connects merchant payment acceptance to conversational platforms, while the Mastercard demonstration shows how a bank, merchant and processor can complete an agent purchase on existing card infrastructure.

Worldpay Worldpay

Part of Global Payments, Worldpay supplies merchants with payment and identity infrastructure for purchases made by agents. Its public MCP server for developers connects AI tools to Worldpay APIs so teams can create and test payment integrations. Worldpay has also announced work with Trulioo on agent identity and support for the Agentic Commerce Protocol.

The practical limit is responsibility when something goes wrong. Worldpay says agent payment liability remains unsettled beyond straightforward fraud cases. Its discussion separates fraud checks from proving what a customer actually authorized, making intent records and credential management part of the integration work for merchants and agent platforms.

Amazon Amazon

Amazon's Buy for Me beta buys products from other brands' websites on a customer's behalf. Shoppers find eligible items inside the Amazon Shopping app, review a product page and confirm their delivery address, payment method, taxes and shipping before requesting the purchase. The beta is available to a subset of US customers on iOS and Android.

Amazon then uses an agent to complete the external checkout. The brand fulfills the order and handles customer service and returns, while shoppers can track the purchase through a separate area in the Amazon app. Availability is limited to selected products and brand stores participating in the test.

AI platforms and big tech

Amazon Web Services Amazon Web Services

Amazon's AWS offers generally available AgentCore payments for developers building agents that buy APIs, content and other services. It sits within Amazon Bedrock AgentCore and handles payment orchestration, infrastructure spending limits and transaction visibility through AgentCore Observability. Spending limits are enforced below the agent at the infrastructure layer, and developers can inspect the payment activity through the same observability tools used for their deployed agents.

The service connects to Coinbase and Stripe Privy wallets. Developers can provision Coinbase credentials in the AgentCore console and discover paid x402 endpoints through a curated Bazaar MCP server. It also supports MPP and x402's variable amount payment scheme, covering uses such as metered inference where the final price depends on actual consumption.

Teams can start with the CLI or console or supported coding assistant skills. Production availability is regional, so buyers need to use a supported AWS region. The service also supports dynamic payment amounts, letting an API charge for measured usage rather than forcing the agent to buy a fixed credit package first.

Google Google

Alphabet owned Google lets shoppers check out in AI Mode and Gemini using eligible merchant listings and payment methods saved in Google Wallet. The merchant remains seller of record. Its UCP checkout is available to selected merchants and partners, with eligibility covering the US, Canada and Australia.

UCP is an open commerce protocol developed with Shopify, Etsy, Wayfair, Target and Walmart. It standardizes interactions among agents, merchants and payment providers across discovery, purchase and support. Google's separate agentic checkout can buy on a merchant website at a customer's direction; the UCP checkout completes the transaction directly on Google's surfaces. Google Pay supplies saved details, including shipping information, inside the Google checkout flow. Merchants can preserve their own checkout requirements through the integration.

Merchants join through a phased access program and prepare eligible product data in Merchant Center. Google's newer integration hub adds cart transfer and checkout testing, with analytics planned. Tapestry, owner of Coach and Kate Spade, is among the retailers Google names as using UCP checkout in Search and Gemini. Product listings need checkout eligibility data before the Buy button appears, and merchants need a Google Pay and Wallet Console account as part of setup.

Meta Meta

Meta's Muse personal agent can browse websites, fill forms and prepare purchases, asking for approval before it buys. It runs in a dedicated cloud computer and gives users a record of its actions. People interact with it through the Muse app or WhatsApp.

Payments use Stripe Link at participating merchants and cards restricted to an approved purchase elsewhere. Users approve the transaction total in chat, and the agent does not see the underlying payment details. Muse is also covered by Link purchase protections for eligible purchases, including certain damaged or lost items, price drops and returns, subject to the coverage terms.

Microsoft Microsoft

Microsoft's Copilot Checkout lets US shoppers complete purchases on Copilot.com while the retailer remains merchant of record. PayPal, Shopify and Stripe supply the payment and commerce connections. The feature brings product comparison and payment into the same conversation, with availability depending on the merchant and item.

Shopify merchants manage participation in Shopify; other retailers apply to join Copilot Checkout. Microsoft Merchant Center feeds help inform organic product results, though membership is not required for checkout. PayPal's integration supplies branded and guest checkout, merchant inventory and card payments, with buyer and seller protections applying to eligible transactions under PayPal's terms. Microsoft is adopting the ACP standard for merchant onboarding and also offers Brand Agents for guided shopping on retailers' own sites, a separate product from checkout within Copilot.

OpenAI OpenAI

OpenAI's ChatGPT helps shoppers find and compare products using their budgets, preferences and images. The company expanded its Agentic Commerce Protocol to improve the product information supplied directly to ChatGPT, including price, reviews and features. The current shopping approach focuses on discovery and sends customers to merchants' own checkout experiences. The shopping interface shows options side by side and supports conversational refinement, so a customer can narrow a search before choosing the retailer that completes the sale.

That follows a change to Instant Checkout, the in chat purchase flow introduced with Stripe in 2025. OpenAI says the early checkout product did not offer the flexibility it wanted and now gives merchants more control over the purchase. ACP remains part of the product discovery infrastructure.

Merchants can still build dedicated apps within ChatGPT for deeper shopping integrations. In Walmart's app, users move from discovery into a Walmart experience with account linking, loyalty and Walmart payments. This means a retailer app with its own checkout and the general ChatGPT product search can offer different purchase paths.

Perplexity Perplexity

Perplexity's Instant Buy shopping lets US users research products and purchase eligible items inside its answer engine. It saves checkout details and sends the order and payment directly to the merchant for fulfillment. The service works with compatible merchants and is excluded from Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max accounts.

A Pro search is optional for Instant Buy. Shoppers can ask natural language questions, compare product cards and complete a purchase using the Instant Buy button. For the PayPal integration, participating retailers include Adorama, Fabletics and Newegg. The retailer handles product questions, shipping and fulfillment, so those requests go to the seller rather than Perplexity support. Perplexity ranks organic products by relevance and says advertisers cannot buy placement in its related products section. More complete availability, pricing, specification and review data can help a merchant's listings appear in answers.

Salesforce Salesforce

Salesforce's Agentforce Commerce combines merchant catalogs, shopping agents and commerce operations for retailers. It supports guided shopping on a brand's own website and connections to external AI shopping channels, alongside order management, point of sale and customer data from Salesforce's other products.

Its ACP work with Stripe is designed to connect merchant product information and checkout to channels such as ChatGPT. Salesforce names Pandora and Pacsun as Agentforce Commerce users: Pandora applies it to routine customer inquiries and product recommendations, while Pacsun is developing shoppable experiences across digital channels. The external channel offering was announced for staged introduction, alongside guided shopping and automated order routing for retailers' existing sites.

AI platforms and big tech

Shopify Shopify

Shopify's Agentic Storefronts put merchant products into AI shopping channels including ChatGPT, Google's AI Mode and Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Meta. The feature is active by default for eligible stores, and merchants control participating channels from their Shopify admin. Product information comes through Shopify Catalog or the relevant Google sales connection.

For businesses on other commerce systems, the Agentic plan provides access to Shopify Catalog and AI selling channels without requiring a migration. Merchants can keep their existing online store. Publishing a Shopify online store requires moving to a paid subscription. It also supports other Shopify channels, such as Shop, while the merchant's existing commerce platform continues to run its main website.

The Agentic plan has no monthly subscription fee, with online card rates starting at 2.9% plus 30 cents for US merchants. Shopify's knowledge base supplies agents with store information such as return procedures and shipping timelines, while the admin provides discovery and sales insights for the connected AI channels.

Alchemy Alchemy

Alchemy's AgentCard is live and lets an agent use a customer's existing card for online purchases. Mastercard holders connect through Mastercard Agent Pay and receive a single use payment credential for each purchase. Customers approve Mastercard purchases with a passkey, set spending limits and see activity in real time.

Setup uses a command line tool and a one time identity check before the first spend. AgentCard works with assistants that can run shell commands or HTTP requests, including Claude, Cursor and Codex. It has no subscription fee and costs nothing to start; users pay for their purchases. Onchain payments, DeFi integrations and wallet native spending remain forthcoming.

Circle Circle

Circle, issuer of USDC, provides Agent Stack for developers whose agents need wallets, paid service discovery and programmable spending. Agent Wallets support global limits, per service caps, approved contracts and chains, and time bounded sessions. A command line interface creates wallets, sets policies and triggers transactions.

The Agent Marketplace lists services with machine readable prices, capabilities and invocation details. Agents can find APIs, compute, data and content, then pay with USDC through supported protocols such as x402. Nanopayments, powered by Circle Gateway, support subcent payments without gas charges to the payer. The same platform includes skills for building payments, cross chain transfers and wallet workflows.

Circle reported more than 900 paid services in Agent Stack and 99.3% of x402 agent payment volume settling in USDC in its second quarter results. Developers can configure wallet policies that restrict transfers and contract interactions before execution, including approved destinations and spending sessions that expire. Supported chains vary by component, with the product page listing networks individually.

Coinbase Coinbase

Coinbase gives developers agent wallets and payment tools through its Developer Platform. Agentic Wallet has a command line interface for sending, trading and paying for x402 services, plus an MCP version that discovers and pays for services from compatible AI clients. The MCP version does not provide the CLI's trading and transfer functions.

For sellers, the hosted x402 facilitator verifies signed payments, screens addresses, submits settlement to a blockchain and reports the result to the service being purchased. It supports several EVM networks and Solana, with different combinations of fixed price, variable amount and batched payments. Coinbase says it has processed more than 100 million transactions through the facilitator. Address screening is included, using sanctions and transaction risk checks before settlement. Sellers receive funds at an address they control, including a Coinbase account or self custody wallet.

The first 1,000 monthly onchain transactions are free, then each additional onchain transaction costs $0.001. Verification is free. Fees count blockchain activity rather than individual API requests, so batching can spread a settlement charge across many payments; deposits, refunds and withdrawals also count toward onchain activity.

Crossmint Crossmint

Crossmint gives agent builders cards, wallets and checkout APIs. Users save a card, approve spending limits and can cancel that permission. The three products can be used separately: Agent Cards provides payment credentials, Agent Wallets holds stablecoins, and Agent Checkouts handles purchases, carts and subscriptions on websites.

The Visa and Basis Theory launch initially covered eligible US issued Visa cards. Crossmint now supports cards from any country, with spending controls enforced through Visa and Mastercard for cards and onchain for wallets. Payment details stay in a PCI compliant vault, and checkout integrations can pass only IDs through the developer's app.

For buying APIs or paying another agent, stablecoin wallets support x402 and MPP. For merchant websites, the checkout API uses supported commerce protocols or browser automation. It can also work with other providers' agent cards or payment methods already saved at a merchant, so teams can use the checkout service without adopting Crossmint's card vault. Crossmint also packages payment tools in lobster.cash for agent platforms such as Claude Code, OpenClaw and Hermes.

Fireblocks Fireblocks

Fireblocks sells agent payment infrastructure to payment providers and fintechs. Its Agentic Payments Suite has two parts: a gateway for merchants accepting stablecoins from agents, and programmable wallets that end users can delegate to agents under spending limits. Wallet activity has an audit trail, and the stack includes conversion, reconciliation and payout tools.

The suite supports x402 and MPP payment flows. Agora's AUSD is already live on the stack, and Tazapay describes using the gateway to develop merchant acceptance. Fireblocks also contributes to the x402 Foundation, including a security extension for request integrity and spending governance. Its target buyers are platforms embedding these capabilities for their own customers. The gateway applies transaction screening and Travel Rule checks before funds move and supplies structured settlement records. Access to the gateway starts through an application to Fireblocks.

MoonPay MoonPay

MoonPay gives developers MoonAgents wallet tools for agents that hold and use crypto. Its MoonAgents Card connects a self custody wallet to a virtual Mastercard through Monavate, converting stablecoins to ordinary card payment funds at purchase. Users can revoke delegated spending authority, and a declined payment returns funds to the wallet.

The card's UK and Latin America availability covers the UK and Latin America through MoonPay CLI, with identity verification required before issuance. The launch plan lists the US and EU as later markets. The card extends MoonPay's existing command line payment tools and agent workflows, letting agents spend wallet balances at online merchants accepting Mastercard.

Rain Rain

Rain supplies stablecoin funded cards and accounts to businesses building financial products. Its agent offering includes Scoped Cards and an Agent Control Layer, which restrict the credentials an agent can use and the spending it can authorize. The underlying platform also covers wallets and money movement through one API.

Rain convened the Agentic Payments Alliance with more than 25 founding organizations, including Visa, Mastercard, Fiserv, Circle, Solana and Remitly. The alliance is run collectively by its members and is intended to test identity and authorization standards, develop shared research and address regulatory questions. It is separate from Rain's commercial card and payments products.

Startups built for agent payments

Catena Catena

Catena provides governed accounts for agents, with unique agent identities, predefined transaction rules and audit trails. Businesses use an MCP server, API, command line interface or agent skills to connect workflows, while people manage policies and approvals through a console or their own assistant. Listed payment rails include cards, ACH, wires and stablecoins.

The company was founded by Circle cofounder Sean Neville. Its proposed Catena Trust Bank received conditional OCC approval. That is a conditional trust charter, with final approval dependent on regulatory conditions, rather than authorization to take ordinary demand deposits or make loans. People keep control of approvals while agents use accounts and payment tools under those policies.

Natural Natural

Natural supplies wallets and payment APIs for agents, businesses and platforms. Its available products include Wallets, one way Vaults, Pay, Request, Transfer and Connect for marketplaces. Developers can use an MCP server, command line tools, SDK or API, with agent identities and transaction records tied to the workflow. Vaults only accept incoming funds, restricting agents from moving money back out of that account type. Pay and Request cover payments to or from another agent, person or business.

Wallets and Vaults are free across account tiers. Business Pay and Request transactions cost 0.1%; standard transfers are free, while instant transfers are listed at 1.5%. Cards, acceptance, credit, voice collection and billing are still marked forthcoming on the pricing page. Banking services come from Column N.A.; deposit insurance has conditions and covers eligible deposits through Column and its sweep network. The Connect marketplace product is also free across account tiers, while enterprise payment fees are negotiated. Natural is a financial technology company, and Column supplies the banking accounts.

Natural raised a $30 million Series A led by Forerunner, bringing total funding above $40 million. The company says six products reached general availability with that round, while the remaining parts of its wider payment stack were still in development.

Nevermined Nevermined

Nevermined lets agents buy services within spending mandates set by a person or platform. Developers connect through an MCP server, SDK or API, then control the budget, number of purchases and expiry. A mandate can be revoked, and the service catalog supplies paid tools that an agent can discover during a task.

A personal account starts free with 2,000 credits and supports up to 20 agents and ten payment plans. Catalog access costs $20 a month for 20,000 additional credits, with $10 top ups available. Organization plans start at $50 a month, rising to $250 for Premium and $500 for Enterprise.

The transaction fees depend on the purchase route. Managed purchases of external services carry a 2% buyer fee. Sellers on Nevermined pay 1% on stablecoin settlement or 2% on card settlement, plus payment processing costs at cost; buyers of those sellers pay no extra Nevermined fee. Bank payment rails are still listed as forthcoming.

Payman AI Payman AI

Payman AI deploys banking agents inside institutions for banks and credit unions. Authenticated customers request payments, transfers or account analysis in text chat, and a policy engine checks actions before they reach the core banking system. The institution controls approvals, audit records and an immediate shutdown switch.

Payman integrates with existing US banking systems including FIS, Fiserv, Jack Henry and COCC. Its site names Citizens State Bank and Middlesex among its banking relationships. The company says it has raised $13 million in total, with Visa, Coinbase Ventures and Circle among its investors. It sells the product through demos and institution specific deployments.

PayOS PayOS

PayOS gives agent builders network issued payment tokens with passkey authenticated customer consent. Each credential can be restricted by merchant, amount and time, while the wallet stores the card separately from the agent. Its broader platform adds card, bank, business and identity data for payment decisions. The token's scope expires with its task, so a merchant specific credential has an amount cap and time limit rather than permission to make arbitrary future purchases.

The company completed a live Mastercard Agentic Token transaction and said it was ready to onboard customers. Its current payment data offering is self service and charged by usage. The agent stack combines wallet enrollment, scoped credentials, spending rules and user verification; it can supply issuer and rewards information as part of choosing a card for a purchase.

Prava Prava

Prava lets users delegate card purchases to agents through Prava Pay and developer integrations. A passkey approval creates a tokenized credential restricted to an approved merchant and price, with the original card details hidden. The wallet connects to tools such as OpenClaw and Hermes. Its current public availability description covers US Visa cards and merchants.

Rye Rye

Rye lets AI apps complete purchases on merchant sites through a Universal Checkout API. Developers supply a product URL and payment token; Rye retrieves the full price, including tax and shipping, and places the order. It uses browser automation and saved checkout workflows, accepts tokenized payment data and leaves the retailer as merchant of record. Successful browser flows are cached as repeatable workflows. Rye advertises more than 90% order reliability for browser automated flows, with a separate API uptime commitment.

The Developer plan costs $149 a month with $50 in monthly credits, a 30 day free trial, $0.05 per order and $0.02 per product fetch. Third party platform costs pass through without markup. Enterprise pricing is negotiated, with volume discounts, custom integrations and dedicated support. Rye also offers a product data API for discovery before checkout.

Skyfire Skyfire

Skyfire gives agents identity and payment credentials for website access, login and checkout. Its Know Your Agent tokens connect the platform, agent and human principal, along with the user's spending mandate. The wallet can enroll credit cards and manage stablecoins, with tokenized card purchases supported alongside USDC. Its Buy for Me experience combines those components into a purchase flow that can use existing referral links when completing checkout.

Its agent checkout offering targets both agent builders and the websites that need to accept them. Skyfire lists infrastructure and commerce partners including Akamai, F5, Forter and Rye. Visa has also reported a closed beta Skyfire purchase in which Consumer Reports' recommendation agent demonstrated buying Bose headphones through browser automation.

Cards and credentials for agents

Basis Theory Basis Theory

Basis Theory stores payment data in a processor independent vault and supplies credentials agents can use under a customer's mandate. Its BT/AI platform lists live card payment integrations with Visa Intelligent Commerce, Mastercard Agent Pay, Stripe Shared Payment Tokens and Link cards. It can restrict permission to a task, merchant and time window.

Stablecoin sources and rails are still marked forthcoming, while some browser and credential proxy products are in alpha. Standard vault pricing starts at $995 monthly for 20,000 tokens; agent enrollments sit within the sales led enterprise offering. Basis Theory raised a $33 million Series B led by Costanoa, and names Pinterest, Melio and MoneyGram as infrastructure customers. Its PCI agent runtimes let software work with protected payment data inside Basis Theory's environment, while the browser proxy fills checkout fields without sending the original credential to the agent.

Highnote Highnote

Highnote gives platforms virtual cards and spending controls for agent initiated supplier payments, procurement and bill pay. A card can be issued per agent, vendor or workflow, with category restrictions, transaction caps and frequency limits checked at authorization. Cards can close automatically when a workflow ends.

Its shared payment ledger records each transaction as it happens, alongside APIs for authorization, capture and refunds. Highnote combines issuing, acquiring and credit on the same platform, with rules applied at card, account or program level. The company has also introduced Visa Intelligent Commerce capabilities for tokenized credentials and dynamic authorization in AI payment workflows.

Lithic Lithic

Lithic supplies virtual cards for agent spending with programmable authorization rules. Developers can create and fund cards through its APIs, lock a card to a merchant, make it single use and restrict spending by geography or transaction frequency. The product targets workflows such as procurement, travel, advertising and bill payment.

Its Authorization Intelligence controls evaluate payment context before approval, with fraud checks, audit records and APIs for disputes. Lithic also publishes an MCP server for agents that connects AI assistants to card creation and authorization settings. Businesses integrate the issuing infrastructure into their own workflow and decide which spending rules apply to each agent or task.

Mercury Mercury

Mercury lets businesses issue dedicated cards for agents through its spend management product. A person creates the card and sets the budget and restrictions; the agent can then use that credential to complete approved purchases. Spending remains visible alongside the company's other cards and finance activity.

The Agent Cards offering includes merchant and category controls as well as budget limits that the agent cannot change. Purchases inside those rules can proceed without approval for every transaction. This gives finance teams a separate payment credential and transaction record for each agent, while the spend policies are enforced through Mercury's existing business card system.

Ramp Ramp

Ramp gives each spending agent an identity and human owner, a budget, approved payment methods and an audit trail. Finance teams set merchant restrictions and approval requirements before money moves. Agents can use a connected person's identity or have a separately managed identity for shared background work.

Agents can use Agent Card checkout, MPP and x402, with receipts, approvals and accounting context attached to the payment. Developers connect through APIs, MCP or command line tools. Visa has also reported Ramp corporate bill payment pilots using Visa Intelligent Commerce, where agents help carry out business purchases within an existing finance workflow.

VGS VGS

VGS stores sensitive payment details and replaces them with tokens for agent workflows. Its toolkit can fill merchant checkout forms or pass payment data through an API to a merchant or processor, keeping the agent application from directly handling the underlying card information. It also offers agentic network tokens.

The toolkit covers both browser checkout and API payment paths, so developers can work with merchant sites that expose different payment interfaces. VGS reports ten billion tokens stored across its broader vault business, double its previous year's total. That figure describes the company's stored data, rather than the number of agent purchases completed through the toolkit.

Cloudflare Cloudflare

Cloudflare supplies x402 and MPP payment support in its Agents SDK for developers building paid APIs and MCP tools. A service returns a payment challenge, the agent pays and retries, and the server verifies payment before returning the resource. Client tools can handle this exchange automatically, with optional human approval.

Its announced Cloudflare Wallets and cloudflare.pay add account identities, a stablecoin balance and agent wallets with spending caps, merchant lists and transaction limits. Handle reservations are open, with full wallet access scheduled for later. Developers can already use the SDK payment integrations with supported payment providers.

Know your agent

Trulioo Trulioo

Trulioo's Know Your Agent product checks the organization behind an agent and records the agent's declared purpose, permissions and operational scope in a signed Digital Agent Profile. Counterparties can check that profile through APIs or MCP before applying their own access and transaction rules. Trulioo checks the developer organization through business verification and AML screening, confirms domain control and binds the result to the agent's cryptographic identity.

The product is currently in alpha, with registration limited to organizations whose domains have been enabled. Credentials are time bounded and revocable, and monitoring updates the profile when material information changes. Trulioo explicitly says verification provides evidence about identity and authorization, rather than guaranteeing future agent behavior. Financial institutions, payment providers and marketplaces are among the intended users.
