Citi Mandates AI Training for 175,000 Employees

October 06, 2025
Citi has introduced a mandatory AI training program for 175,000 employees, focusing on enhancing their ability to create effective prompts for AI tools.

Citi has announced a mandatory AI training program for 175,000 employees across 80 locations. The program, titled 'Asking Smart Questions - Prompting like a Pro,' is designed to improve employees' skills in creating effective prompts for the bank's AI tools. Participants are required to complete the training within 60 days.

The training aims to enhance productivity by teaching employees how to generate impactful results through well-crafted prompts. According to an internal memo from Tim Ryan, Citi's head of technology and business enablement, and Anand Selvakesari, the bank's chief operating officer, the initiative is part of Citi's broader strategy to integrate AI into its operations.

The program uses adaptive learning technology to tailor the training to each employee's knowledge level, allowing experts to complete it in under 10 minutes, while beginners may take about 30 minutes. This initiative follows Citi's recent deployment of AI tools to 5,000 employees for research and data analysis, as well as to 40,000 developers using coding support tools like Devin AI and GitHub Copilot.
