A&O Shearman Commits $1.1 Billion to AI Strategy
A&O Shearman will commit $1.1 billion over five years to its AI strategy, according to Iberian Lawyer. Most of the investment will come from each practice devoting at least 3% of its time to developing specialist AI tools and services for its area of law.
The firm will focus on systems that incorporate knowledge from specific practices and sectors rather than applying one collection of general tools across the organization. Its governance structure covers security and quality.
A&O Shearman is also expanding ContractMatrix, an AI powered contract tool created in 2023 with Microsoft and Harvey. Client use across the ContractMatrix product suite increased ninefold during the past 12 months.
The firm says 96% of its partners and 93% of its lawyers use its AI tools. Users have completed more than 558,000 activities through ContractMatrix and Harvey legal workflow tools.
