Scope3 Secures $25M to Tackle AI's Environmental Impact
Scope3 has raised $25 million in new funding, led by GV, to expand its sustainability initiatives into the AI sector, announced in a press release. The funding round also saw participation from existing investors Venrock, Room40 Ventures, and Craft Ventures, along with new investors Aperiam Ventures and Virgo Strategic Investments.
Since its inception in 2021, Scope3 has focused on decarbonizing the media and advertising industries. The company now plans to apply its proven methodologies to the AI industry, which is facing increasing scrutiny over its environmental impact. The training of AI models is known to consume significant amounts of electricity and emit substantial carbon emissions.
Scope3's new funding will support the release of its open-source AI methodology, designed to trace and measure the environmental impacts of AI products and services. This initiative aims to help companies using AI make informed decisions to reduce their carbon footprints while maximizing the effectiveness of their AI investments.
