OpenAI says ChatGPT search volume is one fifth of Google's
OpenAI says ChatGPT now handles search like queries at roughly one fifth of Google's volume, consumer product lead Adam Fry told Big Technology at an OpenAI dinner in New York. Fry said the figure covers questions people would previously have taken to a search engine, such as finance and health questions that need up to date information.
ChatGPT grew from 1 billion to 1.2 billion weekly active users in the past two months. Voice input, including dictation and voice conversations, has 250 million weekly active users, while users create 1.5 billion images each week.
OpenAI also plans to merge ChatGPT's Chat and Work modes. Fry said the change is meant to leave users with fewer toggles, sliders and model pickers.
