OpenAI Releases Data on ChatGPT Work Use Across Nearly 100 Countries

Oct 27, 2026
OpenAI has released Signals data covering how consumers in nearly 100 countries use ChatGPT for 165 types of work activities.

OpenAI released OpenAI Signals, a dataset showing how people in nearly 100 countries use ChatGPT for 165 types of work activities.

The quarterly data spans the first quarter of 2025 through the third quarter of 2026. It uses Intermediate Work Activities from the O*NET framework, allowing researchers to compare ChatGPT usage across countries, time periods, occupations, and economic indicators.

Across 74 countries included in every quarter, the 10 most common activities accounted for an average of 51.1% of classified work messages in the third quarter of 2026, down from 56% in the first quarter of 2025. OpenAI said this reflected growing variation in the work activities submitted to ChatGPT across countries.

The dataset covers work related messages from individual ChatGPT plans. It excludes enterprise messages and Codex usage. OpenAI said automated systems classify messages after identifying information is removed, while published results use aggregation, minimum group sizes, and statistical noise to protect privacy.
