Digital Medicine Society Launches AI Governance Initiative for Healthcare

Digital Medicine Society has launched 'Operationalizing AI Governance in Healthcare', a program designed to help health systems and technology developers move from general AI principles to practical implementation. The initiative was announced in a press release and is developed with Qualified Health as the title sponsor.

The program, hosted under DiMe's Connected Health Collaborative Community, will produce open resources such as risk assessment templates, performance monitoring guides, and governance committee charter templates. These are aimed at helping organizations assess risk, monitor system performance, and establish governance as part of their day-to-day operations.

A survey by DiMe found that 82 percent of health systems lacked an AI governance process, despite actively using AI tools. The new initiative does not create another abstract framework but integrates existing guidance into directly usable resources, including a risk triage toolkit and a plain language library of metrics for predictive and generative AI.

Outputs will be developed through short project sprints and released on a rolling basis. The initiative plans to showcase its progress at the HLTH 2026 event in November. Partners include Intel, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, American Psychological Association, and several major health networks and medical centers.
