Cohere has opened a new office in Paris, marking a significant step in its expansion across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). This new hub will serve as the central point for Cohere's operations in the region, highlighting the importance of EMEA in the company's global strategy.

The Paris office is expected to grow its workforce to 20 employees by the end of the month, with plans to double this number over the next year. The team will include new business and public policy leads, alongside existing research, engineering, safety, and product teams. Cohere is also bringing on Stéphanie Finck Piccin, a former Salesforce executive, as head of EMEA public policy.

This expansion follows Cohere's recent $500 million USD funding round aimed at fueling global growth. The company, which develops large language models for enterprise applications, is leveraging France's AI talent pool to enhance its offerings. Cohere's Paris team is already contributing to its multilingual models and flagship agentic AI platform, North.

Cohere's move into Paris positions it to compete with local AI companies like Mistral AI, as well as larger American firms such as OpenAI and Anthropic. The company aims to support enterprise customers in regulated sectors by deploying its technology on their premises, ensuring greater privacy and security.
