China Southern Power Grid Showcases AI Power System at WAIC 2026

China Southern Power Grid presented its AI-based power system technologies at the 2026 World AI Conference in Shanghai, including MegaWatt Yunrui, an automated distribution network planning agent that produces full planning reports in ten minutes.

China Southern Power Grid showcased its AI-based power system technologies at the 2026 World AI Conference and the High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance in Shanghai, according to a press release. The company demonstrated MegaWatt Yunrui, an AI driven distribution network planning agent that generated a full report with risk assessment and grid topology recommendations in ten minutes during a live presentation.

MegaWatt Yunrui was the only project from a central state-owned enterprise to be named among the event’s Top 10 Signature Exhibits. The system forms part of China Southern Power Grid’s wider platform integrating electricity, carbon and computing systems. The company described it as China’s first industry-level platform to coordinate these three domains.

Built on a digital power grid, the company’s technology architecture includes computing infrastructure, foundation models for the power sector, AI agents and field devices. At the foundation layer is MegaWatt Multimodal 2.0, designed specifically for power applications. At the device layer, the firm introduced PowerAtomOS, its proprietary unified operating system for power sector IoT devices, which manages hundreds of millions of connected units across different power scenarios.
