Zuckerberg Rejects Industry Wide AI Slowdown

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg rejected an industry wide slowdown in AI development, according to Fortune. He said market incentives give AI labs a reason to align their models with users because people will avoid agents that do not follow their instructions.

Zuckerberg said Meta delayed the release of its Muse agent because of safety and security concerns. He presented the delay as an example of a company pausing its own product without requiring competitors to do the same.

His position contrasts with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who has called for companies to slow capability development and examine their safety practices. Reuters reported that Zuckerberg's concern that AI regulation would harm the ability of US companies to compete with Chinese rivals is shared by other executives, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.
