US Government to Map Laws Applying to AI Labs in November
The US federal government will publish an outline of the laws and regulations that apply to domestic AI labs later in November, Reuters reports. Emil Michael, chief technology officer at the U.S. Department of War, said the material would be released within one or two weeks.
Michael is vice chair of the Super Intelligence Task Force, an intergovernmental group established by President Donald Trump to coordinate AI policy. He disclosed the timeline at a Wall Street Journal technology conference in Napa, California, on November 4.
Michael did not provide details about the laws or agencies covered by the outline. “What we’re trying to do is create a framework that makes the American people have confidence that these companies are going to do the right thing,” he said. “Or else I think what you get is 535 legislators writing a piece of regulation that could kill the industry.”
