Democrats Prioritize AI Investigations After Midterm Sweep
Democrats are making AI regulation and investigations of technology companies a key priority as they prepare to take control of the House and Senate after Tuesday's elections, according to The Hill. The shift will hand the party control of the US Congress.
Representative Greg Casar of Texas said his party "must make it a top priority to protect Americans' jobs, freedom and lives from AI billionaires." He said AI company chief executives "should be called to testify under oath" and that Congress should investigate the companies and pass bills to protect people.
Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts wrote that Big Tech executives are "going to need to plant new forests for all of the subpoenas we'll be printing." Last month, Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren, Richard Blumenthal and Chris Van Hollen released a 27-page report from a nearly yearlong probe into how AI data centers could raise costs for consumers.
