House Democrats Seek 48 Hour Reporting on AI Safety Incidents
Democratic leaders from the House Energy and Commerce Committee, House Science Committee and House Judiciary Committee asked five frontier AI companies to report model misalignment and safety incidents within 48 hours of detection, according to a congressional press release. The letters were signed by Representatives Frank Pallone Jr., Zoe Lofgren and Jamie Raskin.
The lawmakers asked each company to provide a full record of identified incidents by November 11, 2026. They also requested notification within 24 hours when an incident appears to involve critical infrastructure.
The requests are voluntary because no federal requirement currently defines which AI incidents companies must report, what information reports must include or when companies must submit them.
