Potential Sciences Raises Eight Figure Round With Sovereign AI Backing
Potential Sciences raised an eight figure funding round with backing from the UK government's Sovereign AI fund, the government said in an announcement. Other investors include Twin Path Ventures, Odyssey, Portfolio Ventures, Blue Wire Capital, rule30, Nauta Capital and Lightfield Equity.
The British startup is building an AI model that uses physics rather than relying primarily on data from laboratory experiments. Its software runs quantum chemistry calculations on graphics processors and could make calculations for chemical design 100 times cheaper, according to the company.
Sovereign AI will also provide computing resources through the UK's AI Research Resource, including the Isambard-AI supercomputer in Bristol. Potential Sciences plans to use its models to design chemicals and support medicine discovery.
