Sophia Space and SLI Outline $300 Million Satellite Financing Framework

Sophia Space and aerospace leasing company SLI outlined a nonbinding $300 million financing framework for 10 orbital computing satellites, Sophia Space said in a press release. SLI would buy the Sophia TILE spacecraft and lease them to customers through fixed monthly or quarterly payments.

The long term operating lease would cover the satellites' expected useful lives. Launches are planned as early as 2028.

Sophia Space expects the constellation to provide computing capacity equal to 240 edge servers. Planned uses include processing data for Earth observation, weather analysis, supply chain management, disaster preparedness, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

Sophia Space describes itself as a developer of orbital computing and in space data centers, using its modular TILE technology for in situ data processing, AI acceleration and edge computing. SLI is the aerospace subsidiary of Libra Group and was set up in 2023 to finance aerospace assets including satellites and ground stations.
