Anthropic Values Internal Claude Use Above Employee Pay

Nov 1, 2026
Anthropic says in its IPO filing that internal Claude use, valued at customer prices, exceeded monthly employee pay excluding stock awards in April.

Anthropic says in its IPO filing that the value of Claude used internally, calculated at the prices it charges customers, exceeded its monthly employee compensation costs in April, Business Insider reports. The compensation figure excludes stock awards.

By September, internal AI usage had grown more than 250-fold since January, according to the filing. More than 90% of the code added to Anthropic's software in September was written by Claude.

The comparison does not mean Anthropic spends more cash on AI than on salaries. It values its internal AI consumption at retail prices. Business Insider notes that some tech companies have started to treat AI tokens as a fourth part of employee compensation, alongside salary, bonuses and stock awards.
