Pony AI Unveils Level 4 Electric Truck With GAC

Pony AI and GAC Commercial Vehicle unveiled a Level 4 autonomous electric truck, with volume production planned for later in 2026.

Pony AI unveiled a Level 4 autonomous heavy duty truck at IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026 in Hannover, developed with GAC Commercial Vehicle, the company said in a press release. Volume production is scheduled to begin later in 2026.

The truck combines Pony AI's Gen 4 autonomous trucking system with GAC's T9 battery electric platform and redundant drive by wire chassis. Its sensor package includes nine lidars, three millimeter wave radars and 13 cameras for 360 degree coverage.

The system uses the same domain controller as Pony AI's seventh generation Robotaxis. Pony AI said bill of materials costs are 70% lower than for the previous generation, while transportation costs per ton kilometer are expected to fall by 30%. It also expects energy efficiency algorithms and the T9 platform's low drag design to cut energy consumption by 10% compared with conventional trucks.

The truck is designed for long haul freight, dedicated route logistics and port transportation. Pony AI plans to expand its Robotruck business into Europe and the Middle East over the next two years. The two companies signed a strategic cooperation agreement on 16 April and completed vehicle testing and validation within five months.
