OpenAI Introduces Study Mode in ChatGPT for Enhanced Learning

July 29, 2025
OpenAI has launched Study Mode in ChatGPT, a feature designed to foster critical thinking by guiding students through problems rather than providing direct answers.

OpenAI has launched a new feature called Study Mode in ChatGPT, aimed at enhancing students' critical thinking skills. Announced on their website, Study Mode encourages users to engage with material through interactive prompts and scaffolded responses, rather than simply providing answers.

Study Mode is available to logged-in users on ChatGPT's Free, Plus, Pro, and Team plans, with plans to extend it to Edu subscribers soon. This feature is designed to help students work through problems step by step, offering personalized support and knowledge checks to track progress.

The initiative reflects OpenAI's commitment to improving educational outcomes by integrating AI tools that promote active learning. While students can easily switch back to regular mode, OpenAI is considering future enhancements such as administrative controls to maintain engagement in Study Mode.
