OpenAI is close to finalizing a $40 billion funding round led by SoftBank, which would value the company at $300 billion, according to Bloomberg.

OpenAI is on the verge of completing a $40 billion funding round led by SoftBank, which would elevate the company's valuation to $300 billion, according to Bloomberg. This significant investment round includes contributions from Magnetar Capital, Coatue Management, Founders Fund, and Altimeter Capital.

SoftBank plans to initially invest $7.5 billion, with an additional $2.5 billion coming from a syndicate of investors. A second round of $30 billion is anticipated later this year, with SoftBank contributing $22.5 billion and the syndicate adding another $7.5 billion. If successful, this deal would make SoftBank the largest investor in OpenAI, surpassing Microsoft.

The funding is expected to support OpenAI's ambitious revenue growth plans, as the company aims to triple its revenue to $12.7 billion this year and reach nearly $30 billion by 2026. This move further solidifies SoftBank's position as a major player in the AI sector, following its recent $16 billion borrowing plan for AI investments.
