Oct 28, 2026
Microsoft generated $10 billion in quarterly revenue from commercial arrangements with OpenAI, representing nearly 11% of its total revenue.

Microsoft generated $10 billion in revenue from commercial arrangements with OpenAI during the quarter ended September 30, the company said in a regulatory filing on Wednesday, TechCrunch reports. The amount represented nearly 11% of Microsoft's $92.3 billion in total revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 2027.

Revenue from OpenAI totaled $24.1 billion for Microsoft's full 2026 fiscal year. The latest quarterly figure would equal $40 billion over a full year at the same pace.

Microsoft also reported $7.2 billion in outstanding receivables from OpenAI at the end of September, up from $6 billion at the end of June. These receivables cover amounts owed for previous transactions and are not additional revenue.

Microsoft did not disclose how much of the quarterly revenue came from revenue sharing payments or Azure services. Its ownership stake in OpenAI declined from about 25% in June to 24% in September.
