OpenAI to Acquire Pierre Computer for Codex Code Storage

Nov 4, 2026
OpenAI will acquire developer tools startup Pierre Computer and integrate its Code Storage function into Codex. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Axios reports that OpenAI will acquire Pierre Computer, a developer tools startup whose technology is already used in Codex. OpenAI plans to integrate Pierre's Code Storage function into Codex, while Pierre's open source projects will remain open source.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The acquisition follows reports in March that OpenAI was developing a code hosting platform that could compete with Microsoft's GitHub.

Axios says OpenAI is joining several companies challenging GitHub as AI agents write more code. Cursor, now owned by SpaceX, launched GitHub rival Origin in August, and former GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke announced a competing product last month. Earlier this week OpenAI also described Pando, a system built to handle the growth in code generated by AI agents. Microsoft owns nearly a quarter of OpenAI.
