OpenAI acquires Orchestra Bio to bring AI agents into drug development
OpenAI has acquired Orchestra Bio, a startup building AI agents that help pharmaceutical companies manage drug development, the company told Axios in an exclusive and announced on its website. Financial terms were not disclosed.
OpenAI will integrate Orchestra's team and technology into Rosalind, its suite of AI models and tools for life sciences researchers. Orchestra's platform lets scientists delegate tasks such as monitoring studies, tracking drug development timelines and identifying potential delays to AI agents.
OpenAI introduced its GPT-Rosalind model in April and works with Novo Nordisk and Moderna on research workflows. Rival Anthropic acquired AI biotech startup Coefficient Bio for roughly $400 million in April, The Information reported, and launched Claude Science in June.
