O-RAN Alliance Sets Priorities for AI-Driven RAN and 6G Collaboration
The O-RAN Alliance has outlined its priorities for scaling AI-driven Radio Access Network (RAN) deployments and collaborating on 6G standardization, announced in a press release. At the recent O-RAN Alliance Summit at MWC Barcelona 2025, the organization emphasized its commitment to open and intelligent RAN solutions.
Key priorities include enhancing high-performance, interoperable open fronthaul for massive MIMO operations and advancing AI-driven network management through a mature RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) and decoupled Service Management and Orchestration (SMO). The Alliance is also focusing on security improvements with an expanded security assurance program and the adoption of Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA).
The O-RAN Alliance is working closely with 3GPP to ensure a unified vision for 6G, aiming for seamless integration of its open and intelligent RAN solutions with the broader 6G ecosystem. This collaboration seeks to align specifications and standards to avoid fragmentation and support global deployment.
The Summit also highlighted the Alliance's efforts in supporting vertical industries like healthcare and transportation by providing a flexible, intelligent, and open network architecture. These initiatives aim to cater to the specific needs of various sectors, paving the way for innovative applications and enhanced network efficiency.
