nEye Systems Secures $72.5 Million for Optical Switch Technology

nEye Systems has secured $72.5 million in funding to enhance its optical switch technology, announced in a press release. The Series B round, led by CapitalG, also saw participation from Microsoft’s Venture Fund (M12), Micron Ventures, and NVIDIA.
The funding aims to address communication bottlenecks in data centers, high-performance computing, and AI/ML systems. nEye's optical switch technology offers a more efficient solution compared to traditional electrical switches, providing virtually unlimited bandwidth and reducing power consumption.
Founded by UC Berkeley technologists, nEye Systems has developed a high radix silicon photonic switch that is significantly smaller, faster, and more cost-effective than existing solutions. The company's technology is poised to transform AI infrastructure by enabling direct optical connections among GPUs and memory units, enhancing performance and scalability in data centers.
