HP Acquires Humane's Assets, Discontinues AI Pin
HP has acquired most of Humane's assets for $116 million, leading to the immediate discontinuation of Humane's AI Pin, announced on their website. The AI Pin, initially launched in April 2024 as a smartphone replacement, will cease to function by February 28, 2025, as it will no longer connect to Humane's servers.
Humane's AI Pin, priced at $499, faced challenges with customer satisfaction and returns, which eventually outpaced sales. The company had also advised against using the device's charging case due to battery fire concerns. Customers who purchased the AI Pin within the last 90 days are eligible for a refund.
The acquisition by HP includes Humane's AI platform, Cosmos, and its team of engineers and product managers. This team will form a new group within HP called HP IQ, focusing on building an intelligent ecosystem across HP's products and services. The transaction is expected to close by the end of the month.
