Elbit Systems Wins $210 Million Contract for AI-Enhanced Merkava Tank Upgrades
Elbit Systems Ltd. has been awarded contracts worth approximately $210 million by the Israel Ministry of Defense for the upgrade of Merkava Main Battle Tanks, announced in a press release. The work will be carried out over six years.
Under the contracts, the company will renew the tanks’ electronic assemblies to extend their operational life and upgrade multiple onboard systems. The enhancements include lightweight AI-powered electro-optical sights that provide panoramic day and night observation, along with improved target detection, acquisition, and tracking capabilities.
The agreements also cover the supply of spare parts and the provision of maintenance and support services throughout the project.
