Checkbox Introduces First Pass AI Agent for Legal Reviews

Sep 16, 2026
Checkbox introduced First Pass, an AI agent that reviews legal requests, contracts, and invoices before they reach a lawyer. Early access is available now, with a broader launch planned for the first quarter of 2027.

Checkbox announced in a press release First Pass, an AI agent that reviews legal requests, contracts, and invoices before they reach a lawyer. The tool captures requests at their source, files them under existing matters, and routes them using plain language guidelines.

For contracts, First Pass compares documents with approved templates or legal team playbooks, then provides a risk score, summary, and review. For invoices, it checks LEDES files for calculation and formatting errors, reviews line items against billing guidelines, and returns a corrected invoice with a summary report.

Checkbox says customers using its intake and triage tools have reduced nondisclosure agreements requiring legal review by up to 95%. First Pass is available through early access, with broader launch capabilities planned for the first quarter of 2027.
