Axelera AI Seeks €150M Funding to Boost Edge AI Ambitions

Axelera AI, a Dutch chipmaker supported by Samsung and the European Union, is in discussions to secure more than €150 million in new funding. The company aims to finalize this round by the end of 2025, according to Bloomberg. This funding effort is part of Europe's broader strategy to enhance its AI independence and reduce reliance on foreign technology.

Founded in 2021, Axelera AI specializes in designing semiconductors for edge networks, allowing data processing on devices without the need for major cloud services. The company's chips are used in applications such as surveillance cameras and robots, focusing on computer vision and generative AI tasks.

The demand for AI processing on edge devices is expected to grow significantly over the next decade, with the market potentially doubling to around $140 billion by 2029. Axelera AI's efforts align with Europe's goal to establish a competitive and sovereign AI industry, reducing dependency on US and Asian components.
