Anthropic has launched The Anthropic Institute, a new organization focused on studying the societal challenges created by increasingly powerful artificial intelligence systems, announced on the company’s website.

The institute will bring together Anthropic’s Frontier Red Team, Societal Impacts, and Economic Research groups. It will be led by co-founder Jack Clark, who assumes the role of Head of Public Benefit. The institute’s work will include forecasting AI progress, analyzing its interaction with the legal system, and reporting findings from research on frontier models.

Several new hires have joined the institute, including Matt Botvinick, who will lead research on AI and the rule of law, and Anton Korinek, who will study how transformative AI reshapes economic activity. Zoë Hitzig will connect the institute’s economic studies with model development.

Alongside the new institute, Anthropic is expanding its Public Policy team under Sarah Heck, the company’s Head of Public Policy. The team will focus on AI governance, safety, transparency, and regulatory engagement, with a new Washington, D.C. office opening later this year.
