Anthropic CEO Meets White House Officials Over Mythos Cybersecurity Concerns

April 18, 2026
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei met with senior Trump administration officials at the White House to discuss the cybersecurity risks and safety protocols surrounding the company’s new AI model, Claude Mythos. The meeting marks a potential thaw in tensions between Anthropic and the government following earlier disputes over AI use in defense projects.

The Trump administration and Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, met at the White House on Friday to discuss collaboration on AI safety and cybersecurity, according to Politico. The talks focused on the company’s new model, Claude Mythos, which has drawn global attention for its potential to automate cyberattacks and uncover vulnerabilities in critical systems.

Attendees included White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross. The meeting was described by both sides as “productive and constructive,” signaling a possible easing of tensions after the administration had previously ordered federal agencies to stop using Anthropic’s products.

The Office of Management and Budget is reportedly considering allowing agencies to test a modified version of Mythos to evaluate its cybersecurity implications. The Treasury Department and other agencies have sought access to the system to assess risks to financial networks.

The meeting follows months of strained relations between the administration and Anthropic after the company refused to remove restrictions on using its AI for autonomous weapons or mass surveillance. President Donald Trump had labeled Anthropic a national security risk earlier this year, effectively halting its federal contracts. The renewed dialogue suggests both parties are exploring ways to balance innovation with safety in the deployment of advanced AI systems.
