White House Considers Guidance to Bypass Anthropic Risk Flag for Federal AI Use
The White House is drafting guidance that could allow federal agencies to bypass Anthropic's supply chain risk designation and begin using new artificial intelligence models such as Mythos, reports Reuters.
According to the report, a draft executive action is being considered that would give the Trump administration a path to ease its dispute with the company. The disagreement began after Anthropic declined to remove restrictions on using its AI models for autonomous weapons or domestic surveillance, leading the Pentagon to classify the firm as a supply chain risk.
President Donald Trump recently said Anthropic was "shaping up" after CEO Dario Amodei met with White House officials to repair relations. The discussions and draft guidance follow the recent unveiling of Mythos, Anthropic's most advanced AI system, which experts say is capable of identifying and exploiting cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
While some Pentagon officials remain opposed to changing Anthropic's designation, others view the conflict as counterproductive and are open to resolving it, according to the Axios report cited by Reuters.
