A Better Road Forward launched a statewide campaign seeking authorization for fully autonomous passenger vehicles in New York.

A Better Road Forward launched a statewide campaign on September 16 supporting the introduction of fully autonomous passenger vehicles in New York, the coalition announced in a press release. The new 501(c)(4) organization will advocate for state authorization while promoting safety requirements for deployment.

Fully autonomous passenger vehicles are not permitted on New York streets. The state Department of Motor Vehicles has operated an autonomous vehicle testing program since 2017, with recent permits covering tests in Buffalo and New York City.

The coalition plans to hold community events, gather public testimonials, conduct polling, and run paid media. Its advisory board includes Basil Seggos, Christine Quinn, Mark Schroeder, Julie Samuels, Kenny Burgos, and Rev. Mark E. Blue.
