Splice Acquires Spitfire Audio to Expand Music Creation Tools
Splice has announced the acquisition of Spitfire Audio, a leading UK developer of virtual instrument libraries, announced in a press release. This acquisition marks Splice's entry into the rapidly growing plugin market, valued at $640 million, and strengthens its position in the broader $7 billion music software and services sector.
Splice, known for its Splice Sounds platform, has become a cornerstone in modern music production, offering a vast catalog of samples and AI-powered tools to over 10 million music producers globally. Spitfire Audio, founded in 2007, is renowned for its high-quality virtual instrument libraries, featuring collaborations with notable composers and studios such as Hans Zimmer and Abbey Road Studios.
The acquisition aims to blend Spitfire Audio's cinematic soundscapes with Splice's extensive sample catalog and AI-powered discovery engine. Both companies will continue to operate independently, with Spitfire Audio's CEO Olivier Robert-Murphy reporting to Splice CEO Kakul Srivastava. The collaboration is expected to lead the music creation market, projected to nearly double to $14 billion by 2031.
