SpAItial Raises $13M to Develop 3D Modeling AI

SpAItial, a startup founded by Matthias Niessner, has raised $13 million to advance its 3D modeling AI technology, focusing on generating interactive 3D environments from text prompts.

SpAItial, a startup founded by Matthias Niessner, has secured $13 million in seed funding to advance its innovative 3D modeling AI technology. The funding round was led by Earlybird Venture Capital, with participation from Speedinvest and several high-profile angel investors.

SpAItial aims to develop Spatial Foundation Models (SFMs) capable of generating coherent 3D environments from text prompts. These models are designed to understand and simulate the appearance and physics of both real and imagined environments, offering potential applications in entertainment, urban planning, and industrial automation.

The startup's technology operates directly on 3D structures, allowing it to bridge virtual and physical environments with unprecedented accuracy and realism. This approach contrasts with current AI models that generate images pixel by pixel, which are less effective for creating immersive, coherent worlds.

With the new funding, SpAItial plans to expand its team and accelerate the development of its first-generation SFMs, moving early prototypes into scalable infrastructure and enhancing models with advanced physics capabilities. The company is also focused on identifying partners to work with its early models and exploring commercial pilots across various industries.
