SpaceX AI Plans 6 GW Arizona Data Center Campus
SpaceX AI plans a data center campus in Cochise County, Arizona, that could require 6 GW of power at full buildout, Data Center Dynamics reports. The proposed site covers 747 acres near Willcox Playa, about 80 miles east of Tucson.
The company applied for a special development permit through its affiliate, Tombstone Resources. Plans call for up to nine data center buildings of 493,000 square feet each, with capacity added in four stages of 1.5 GW. Construction could begin in March 2027 if the county approves the zoning request, with a decision expected on December 9.
SpaceX AI expects to spend $3.6 billion on power infrastructure, including $500 million for upgrades needed for the first stage. The company also plans a 24 GWh battery storage system to manage changes in demand and limit the campus's effect on Arizona's electrical grid.
