SoftBank Sells Entire Nvidia Stake for $5.83 Billion to Fund AI Investments

November 11, 2025
SoftBank Group Corp. has sold its entire holding in Nvidia for $5.83 billion, reallocating capital toward major artificial intelligence projects including investments in OpenAI and data centers in the U.S.

According to Bloomberg, SoftBank Group Corp. has sold its entire stake in Nvidia for $5.83 billion. The proceeds will help fund the company’s expanding artificial intelligence initiatives, including projects such as the Stargate data centers and AI robot manufacturing facilities in the U.S.

SoftBank executives said the sale was not a reflection on Nvidia itself but a step to secure financing for ongoing and planned investments. The company’s Chief Financial Officer Yoshimitsu Goto stated during an earnings presentation that the capital would be used to support SoftBank’s AI financing strategy.

This marks the second time SoftBank has exited Nvidia. The company previously sold its holdings in 2019 before rebuilding a position worth about $3 billion earlier this year. Nvidia’s market value has since increased by over $2 trillion, contributing to SoftBank’s strong quarterly performance.

The transaction accompanies record profits for the Japanese conglomerate, which reported a net income of ¥2.5 trillion ($16.2 billion) in its fiscal second quarter. Strong valuations in AI-related holdings, including OpenAI and Ampere Computing, have significantly boosted SoftBank’s earnings as it continues to pursue large-scale investments across the AI sector.
