SkyPilot Launches Unified AI Compute Platform with $20 Million Seed Funding

SkyPilot has launched from stealth with $20 million in seed funding, announced in a press release. The round was led by Lux Capital, with participation from Amplify Partners, Coatue Management, Foundation Capital, Race Capital, and The House Fund. Prominent technology leaders such as Ali Ghodsi of Databricks, Jeff Dean of Google, and Clem Delangue of Hugging Face also participated.

SkyPilot introduced the SkyPilot Platform, a managed AI compute platform designed to help frontier AI teams manage workloads across multiple environments. It provides a single control plane for large GPU fleet operations, cluster management, orchestration, and enterprise controls. The platform supports AI training, inference, reinforcement learning, and multi-cluster production.

Built on the SkyPilot open source project, which has attracted over 280 contributors and more than 14 million downloads, the platform allows customers to oversee GPU health, manage teams, and ensure high availability. Private preview users reportedly managed over 10,000 GPUs and saw efficiency gains of up to twenty times compared to the open source version.

The funding will support product development, engineering expansion, go to market efforts, and further investment in the company’s open source ecosystem. Organizations including Nubank, Abridge, Applied Compute, and Hippocratic AI already use SkyPilot to operate their large-scale AI workloads across fragmented compute infrastructures.
