Rivian Licenses AI Assistant Technology to Volkswagen
Rivian is licensing elements of its AI voice assistant technology to Volkswagen Group through their joint venture, according to TechCrunch. The companies formed the venture in 2024 to bring Rivian's software and electrical architecture to Volkswagen vehicles.
Rivian did not disclose licensing fees, payment terms, or which Volkswagen models will receive the assistant. Volkswagen's ID EVERY1 is planned as the first vehicle to use Rivian's software and electrical architecture under the partnership.
Rivian introduced the assistant in September 2026 across its R1S, R1T, and R2 vehicles after about two years of development. Its in house agent framework interprets spoken requests and routes them to the relevant vehicle software.
