OpenAI Introduces Prism, an AI Workspace for Scientific Collaboration
OpenAI has launched Prism, a free, AI-native workspace for scientific writing and collaboration, announced in a press release. The platform is powered by GPT-5.2, OpenAI’s most advanced model for mathematical and scientific reasoning, and is available to all users with a ChatGPT personal account.
Prism integrates drafting, revision, collaboration, and publication preparation into a single cloud-based LaTeX-native environment. Researchers can use GPT-5.2 to explore ideas, test hypotheses, and revise text with full document context, including equations, references, and figures. The system also allows users to search for literature from sources such as arXiv and incorporate findings directly into manuscripts.
The tool builds on technology from Crixet, a cloud-based LaTeX platform OpenAI previously acquired and developed into a unified workspace. Prism supports unlimited collaborators, enabling simultaneous editing, commenting, and version management without the need for local installations.
OpenAI states that Prism will soon be available to organizations using ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, and Education plans. The company plans to expand the platform’s AI-assisted features over time, aiming to reduce friction in day-to-day research and make advanced scientific tools more accessible.
