OpenAI Acquires Promptfoo to Strengthen AI Agent Security
OpenAI announced in a press release that it will acquire Promptfoo, an AI security platform designed to help enterprises detect and fix vulnerabilities in AI systems during development. Once finalized, Promptfoo’s technology will be integrated into OpenAI Frontier, the company’s enterprise platform for building and operating AI coworkers.
Promptfoo’s suite of tools enables automated red-teaming, evaluation of AI agent workflows, and monitoring for risks and compliance. Its open-source command-line interface and library are used by more than a quarter of Fortune 500 companies. OpenAI stated that these capabilities will become a native part of Frontier, providing systematic security testing and oversight features within enterprise AI workflows.
The acquisition will also maintain and expand Promptfoo’s open-source projects while embedding security, evaluation, and accountability functions directly into Frontier’s development and deployment processes. The deal is subject to customary closing conditions.
