Nvidia Limits Chinese Access to Overseas AI Computing, Report Says
NVIDIA is requiring cloud partners to earn at least 51% of service sales from companies outside China, the Financial Times reported, citing five people familiar with the matter, according to Benzinga. The reported rule applies to partners offering access to Nvidia computing through overseas data centers.
Nvidia representatives and regional teams reportedly delivered the instructions verbally rather than through formal documents. The company previously did not impose comparable requirements on the geographic makeup of cloud partners' customers.
Chinese companies have used overseas cloud providers to rent advanced AI computing without importing restricted chips. The reported policy does not prohibit all sales to Chinese customers, but it limits their share of each participating provider's service revenue.
