Microsoft Unveils AI-Generated Quake II Demo
Microsoft has released an AI-generated demo of the classic video game Quake II, showcasing the capabilities of its Copilot AI platform. The demo, which is playable in a browser, allows users to navigate a single level of Quake II using keyboard controls. However, Microsoft acknowledges that the experience is not equivalent to playing a fully developed game, citing limitations such as fuzzy enemies and issues with object permanence.
The demo is part of Microsoft's Copilot for Gaming initiative and utilizes the Muse AI model, which allows users to interact with the game environment in real-time. Despite its limitations, the demo serves as a research exploration into the potential of AI in gaming. Microsoft has trained the Muse model on a Quake II level, enabling users to perform actions like moving, jumping, and shooting within the simulated world.
