Anthropic Tells Claude Code Not to Recreate Existing Games
Anthropic added instructions to Claude Code on Opus 5.5 that discourage it from recreating specific existing video games, according to Game Developer.
The instructions tell Claude Code to support original games, projects within a genre, and games based on a user's own designs and assets. It should refuse requests to reproduce a specific game, even when the user gives the copy a different name or describes it as original.
Anthropic said using Claude to infringe intellectual property violates its usage policy. The company plans to refine the restriction and asked users to report cases where Claude rejects work they own.
An X user spotted the rule after an update pushed on 27 October and reported that it cannot be switched off. The change follows weeks of concern among independent developers about fast AI-made clones. Digital Sun Games cancelled a public playtest of its upcoming game ReVamp over fears that someone would feed the demo into an AI tool and release a copy.
