Shigeru Miyamoto says AI will leave a role for game creators
Shigeru Miyamoto says generative AI may take over more production tasks but will not remove the need for human creators, according to Eurogamer. The Nintendo designer discussed the technology at a press conference ahead of receiving Japan's Order of Culture in November.
Miyamoto compared generative AI with earlier advances that shifted work from typewriters to word processors. He said technology can handle more labor while allowing a designer's abilities and intentions to become clearer.
He also warned that creators can mistake satisfaction with the production process for producing quality work. Miyamoto said designs made through copying and pasting often lack clear individual intent, while computers and AI remain assistants that perform labor.
