Generative AI Use Reaches 85.8% Among Surveyed Japanese Game Developers

A CESA report previewed at Tokyo Game Show 2026 found that 85.8% of surveyed Japanese game developers use generative AI.

PC Guide reports that 85.8% of surveyed Japanese game developers use generative AI, according to a CESA report previewed at Tokyo Game Show 2026. The survey found that 63% use the technology daily and 22.8% use it occasionally.

The survey covered developers and member companies of Japan's Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association, whose members include Capcom, Sega, Konami, and Level-5. Reported adoption rose from about 51% in the 2025 report.

The previous report identified visual assets and images as the most common applications, followed by story and text creation and programming assistance. Companies also reported safeguards including human review, restrictions on approved AI tools, and policies against directly using generated output.
